The resistor went, so I replaced it and then the resistor went again and then the blower motor. So the motor was going and causing the resistor to fail. Make sure the cabin filter is clean and no obstructions to the blower motor. Its a pretty easy fix and they're about $65.
well, the car is keeping me busy again. 2000 passat 2.8 manual fan (not climatronic).
